Isaiah 53:5: 'But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.'
Isaiah is describing the suffering servant 700 years before Jesus. Read this and try to deny it's about him.
'Pierced for our transgressions.' He was pierced — and the reason was our wrongdoing, not his. The transaction is explicit.
'The chastisement that brought us peace' was on him. Our peace cost him pain. He absorbed what we owed.
'By his wounds we are healed.' His suffering becomes our wholeness. This is the heart of the gospel, sketched in prophecy seven centuries before the cross.
