1 Peter 2:9 — 'But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.'
Peter is writing to scattered, struggling Christians in places where being Christian was hard. They needed to remember who they were.
Four identities stacked together. Chosen race — God picked you. Royal priesthood — you have direct access to God and represent him. Holy nation — set apart for a purpose. A people for his own possession — you belong to him.
None of those are things you earned. They're given. Your identity comes first; your activity flows from there.
And the purpose? To proclaim what God is like. You moved from darkness to light, and now your life is a billboard for the one who moved you. That's who you are.
