Thomas asks Jesus how to get to where he's going. Jesus answers, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' Three claims, packed tight.
'The way' — definite article. Not a way. The way. Jesus isn't offering himself as one option in a spiritual marketplace. He's saying he is the road.
'The truth' — not 'I teach the truth' or 'I point to the truth.' I am the truth. Truth, in Jesus' framing, isn't a set of ideas. It's a person.
'The life' — not just biological life. The kind of life that doesn't run out, that doesn't end at the grave, that starts now and goes on forever.
And then the line that makes everyone uncomfortable: 'No one comes to the Father except through me.' Jesus is claiming to be the only door. That's either the most arrogant thing ever said, or the most important.
