Titus 3:5 — 'He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.' This is one of Paul's clearest salvation-by-grace verses.
'Not because of works done by us' — Paul removes every basis for boasting. Not your religiosity. Not your morality. Not your effort. Salvation is mercy, not merit.
'Washing of regeneration' — God cleans you from the inside out. It's not a surface fix. It's a new birth. A new start. A new you.
And it's the Holy Spirit who does the renewing. Not your willpower. Not your discipline. The Spirit. That means if works didn't save you, works can't keep you saved either. It's mercy from start to finish.
