1 Peter 2:9 — 'But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.'

'Chosen race.' Selected. On purpose. Not random. God picked you.

'Royal priesthood.' Royal — you have kingly authority through Christ. Priesthood — you have direct access to God. Both at the same time.

'Holy nation.' Set apart. Not better, but different. A people whose lives belong to a different kingdom.

'People for his own possession.' You belong to him. Not in a creepy way. In a deeply secure way. You have an owner who is good.

And the purpose: proclaim his excellencies. Tell people what he's like. That's why you have the identity.
