Hebrews 12:1-2 — 'Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.'
'A cloud of witnesses.' The faithful who came before — they're cheering you on. You're not running alone.
'Lay aside every weight.' Not just sin. Anything that slows you down. Some things aren't wrong, but they're not worth carrying in the race.
'Run with endurance.' This is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace, not panic. Keep moving.
And the secret: 'Looking to Jesus.' Eyes off the competition. Eyes off the obstacles. Eyes on the one who started your faith and will finish it.
