James 4:8 — 'Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.'
Drawing near is two-way. Your step toward God is met by his step toward you. There is no slow, indifferent God in this verse.
And the promise is reliable. Not 'maybe he will.' He will. Every honest move toward God gets a response.
James then talks about clean hands and pure hearts — the outer and inner work of repentance. Drawing near naturally brings cleansing because you can't get close to holy God and stay the same.
So today, take a step. Open the Bible. Say the prayer. Sit in the silence. Move one inch toward him. Watch what happens.
