Psalm 42:11 — 'Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.'

The psalmist talks to himself. Notice that. He doesn't just listen to his soul. He speaks to it. That's a skill worth learning.

Honest questions don't disqualify you. Why are you cast down? Why this turmoil? Asking those questions is the start of bringing them to God.

Then the command. Hope in God. Not feel better. Not figure it out. Hope. Direct your soul toward the God who has not changed.

And the promise. I shall again praise him. The dark season is real, but it's not final. Praise will return, because the God of your salvation is still your God.
