John 16:33 — 'I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.'
Jesus is brutally honest. In the world, you will have tribulation. Will. Not might. Don't be shocked when life is hard.
But then the command. Take heart. Be courageous. There is a reason to lift your head even in the trouble.
The reason is past tense. I have overcome the world. The victory is already won. The headlines just haven't caught up to it yet.
And peace, Jesus says, is in me — not in the world's improvement. Don't wait for circumstances to settle to feel peace. Find it in him today.
