Ephesians 2:8-9: 'For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.'
Three prepositions tell the whole story. By grace — that's the source. Through faith — that's the channel. Not from works — that's the disqualifier.
Grace means undeserved favor. God's posture toward you is generous because he is, not because you earned it.
Faith isn't a work. It's not the new thing you do to get saved. It's the empty hand that receives.
'Not a result of works, so that no one may boast.' If salvation depended on your effort, somebody would always be ahead and somebody behind. Grace levels everyone.
