The first commandment isn't about behavior. It's about allegiance. Who gets the throne of your life?
'Before me' literally means 'in my presence' or 'in my face.' God isn't asking for second place in a long list. He's asking to be the only God in the room.
Idolatry isn't just bowing to statues. An idol is anything you treat as ultimate — money, success, relationships, even good things like family.
Every other commandment in the list rests on this one. Get this right, and the others fall into place. Get this wrong, and no amount of rule-keeping will compensate.
