Leviticus 19:18: 'You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.'
We often think Jesus invented 'love your neighbor.' He didn't. He quoted it. It was in Leviticus all along.
'As yourself.' The command assumes you treat yourself with a certain care — feeding yourself, protecting yourself. Extend that care outward.
Read down to verse 34, and 'neighbor' explicitly includes the foreigner living among you. This was never about loving people like you.
Jesus called this the second greatest commandment, only behind loving God. On these two, everything else hangs.
