Deuteronomy 6:5: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.'
This is the Shema, the central confession of Israel. Devout Jews recite it morning and evening.
'With all your heart' — your deepest affections. 'With all your soul' — your whole inner life. 'With all your might' — your strength, your resources, your effort.
This isn't a command to feel something. It's a command to direct everything you are toward God.
Jesus called this the greatest commandment. Not 'obey God' — love him. Obedience without love is religion. Love produces obedience as fruit.
