Jeremiah 1:5: 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.'
Jeremiah is young and reluctant. God starts his calling with a staggering claim.
'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.' Knowing came before forming. You weren't a surprise to God when the cells started dividing.
'Before you were born I consecrated you.' Set apart. Made holy for a purpose. The calling was settled before the calling could be announced.
This is true of every believer, not just prophets. Your existence isn't random. The God who made you had a purpose in mind before you took your first breath.
