Lamentations 3:22-23: 'The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.'

Lamentations is a funeral song. Jerusalem has been destroyed. Jeremiah is in the rubble.

And in the middle of grief — chapter three, verse 22 — he remembers something true. The Lord's steadfast love never ceases.

'His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning.' Yesterday's mercy got you through yesterday. Today comes with a fresh supply.

'Great is your faithfulness.' Even in this rubble. Even with this much loss. God's faithfulness is the constant when everything else has collapsed.
