Malachi 3:6: 'For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.'

Malachi writes to a discouraged post-exile community. Their faith is wobbly. They're cutting corners with God.

God's word: 'I do not change.' Whatever their wobble, his character is the same. Stability when they have none.

And here's the connection: 'therefore you are not consumed.' If God changed with the cycles of their faithfulness, they would have been destroyed long ago.

An unchanging God is the foundation of trust. The God who loved you yesterday loves you today. The God who forgave you then forgives you now. He doesn't shift.
